Thinking of planning your dream honeymoon abroad, but just don’t know where to start? I was in the same boat not too long ago, so I completely understand that it can be a little overwhelming. But, the hardest part, like with so many other things, is just starting.
1.\\ Plan Ahead.
My first tip, and maybe the most important, is to plan ahead. I’d say as soon as you’re engaged and you’ve had a minute to simply enjoy that season’s beginning, hop to it!
The best way to ensure the best deals on flights and hotel or rental availability is to plan in advance.
Cody and I originally planned to go to a resort in Mexico for our honeymoon. He thought after the wedding, we’d really want to just lie on the beach and relax. But, Paris was always there in my mind. It’s my favorite place in the world, and Cody hadn’t been yet, so it was just where my heart was set on.
If you’re specifically interested in Paris, I wrote an entire Guide to Paris here.
Also, feel free to message me on instagram or leave me a comment here. I love giving tips for travels to Paris.
I just absolutely fell in love with it after I studied there a couple of years ago.
2.\\ Get your passport ASAP.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised by how many people put it off to the last minute or forget all-together.
Just take this advice and go sooner rather than later if you haven’t already traveled abroad.
3.\\ Pick a continent.
If you haven’t yet narrowed down your potential destinations, my best advice is to think about what your ideal setting is. Do you want city – like Paris, Rome, London, Amalfi or a tour of Europe?
Do you want beach relaxation like Mexico, Turks and Caicos, Jamaica or Fiji?
Or maybe something just as relaxing but more countryside like Provence, France or Ireland?
I’m absolutely no expert on travel just yet, but if you need a sounding board for your ideas, just let me know!
4.\\ Start saving.
Honeymoons abroad are definitely amazing and special, but they can also be pricey.
There are definitely ways to save money, like booking early like I mentioned and finding the right hotel or rentals, but you’re going to definitely want to save money for the extras you’ll want to do when you get there.
Even if you’re fortunate enough to have help paying for the actual trip, there are SO many things you’ll want to do when you get to your destination – even if it’s all inclusive, they’re add-ons that will make your time even more memorable.
5.\\\ Start looking for those special opportunities.
So, once you’ve got your destination picked out, start looking up things that will be going on in the area during your time there.
For example, while we were in Paris, there were a ton of Christmas markets going on all over the city.
They were really awesome and it going and exploring them made our stay even better.
Last but not least, I will say this: don’t let your expectations get the best of you.
What I mean is, trips like this, especially honeymoons, are built up for months, maybe even years. So, don’t let your expectations of perfection set you and your trip up for failure.
Just enjoy yourself and be in the moment. If one little piece of the trip doesn’t work out or go to plan, don’t let that take away from the other special moments.
All my love!
