Ten Tips for Working With Your Wedding DJ | Wedding Wednesday by xo, chelsea catherine

Chelsea Catherine host a guest author who gives ten tips for how to work with your wedding DJ.
Happy Wedding Wednesday!
Today, we’re doing something a little different for Wedding Wednesday! I have a guest who will be sharing his professional tips for working with your wedding DJ!

Knowing how to work and communicate with your wedding vendors makes all the difference in the way your big day will go, so Wade Evans from Nashville’s The New Nine has ten tips to share for ensuring your big day sounds exactly like you want it to!

1. Requests – 20 songs you 100% want and 10 songs you 100% don’t want. Think about who will be attending. Sometimes “No Hands” isn’t the best option. Also give requests for dinner and cocktail hour.

2. Timelines – Make sure the DJ has the same timeline you’ve been discussing with the coordinator or your day of help. This is huge for a DJ who is also helping with the ceremony.

3. Introductions – Make sure the list is given in the order of introductions. I highly recommend reading through these so that everyone’s names are said correctly.

4. Placement – When meeting with your venue representatives make sure to talk about DJ placement. Word of advice, don’t sit elderly attendees near the DJ.

5. Special Songs – Talk with your parents and partner about the special songs. Most father/daughter and mother/son songs are long. Talk with your DJ about when you want to fade out.

6. Food and Drinks – Make sure you and your groom discuss if the DJ will be allowed food and casual drinks. Wedding food and drinks are expensive, let them know so they can plan accordingly.

7. Table and skirt –  Find out if your venue will provide this or if the DJ needs to be ready to furnish one.

8. PreWedding Meeting – Plan a time 6-12 weeks out with your DJ to talk through the night, go through names, or FaceTime/Skype if need be.

9. Payment – Always pay before or have a designated check ready with someone to give to the DJ. You’re going to be to busy and excited to worry about that.

10. Dance – If the bride and groom are on the dance floor more people will feel comfortable dancing. It’s your party!

How was your weekend? I was in a wedding this weekend (if you follow me on instagram or snapchat, you’ve already seen the behind-the-scenes). It was the first one I’ve been in that Cody and I got to walk down the aisle together. So, we definitely had major wedding flashbacks and loved it.

Other than that, we had an apartment cleaning marathon that was LOOONG overdue! & of course, I turned the apartment into a botanical garden again, haha. Typical Sunday afternoon.

On Friday, we had the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, so all week I was trying to figure out what to wear, and for some reason I felt like it was custom to wear black to the rehearsal dinner? Is this a tradition – or am I just really that into wearing black that I’ll think up any reason! haha.

So, anyway, y’all know how much I have been loving this blue dress, and it comes in SO MANY colors – including black. So, I bought it from Nordstrom a couple of weeks ago, and I thought this would be the perfect occasion to bring it out.

I am not kidding when I say this dress is one of the most comfortable dresses I own. It’s flowy and even though it’s black, it wasn’t super hot while we were out in the 90 degree Tennessee heat (the humidity was REAL). If it passed that test, I know I’ll be breaking it out for one of the many other weddings we’ll be going to this summer!

I’ve mentioned it before, and you can probably already tell from my Wedding Wednesday series, but I LOVE WEDDINGS.

I always cry. I’m so that girl, and I don’t even care.

Love is a special gift from God, y’all. Any chance I get to see that, I’m so in – especially right now. That’s what we need to see more of.

I hope you have a great day! 🙂

Happy Wedding Wednesday!

I’m so excited about today’s post because it is something that is SO special from our wedding day – our wedding recap video!

A videographer is something I’d recommend for every couple – no matter what the budget is. There are only a few things from your wedding day that are actually for you, and the video is one of them. You’ll be so glad you have a video to look back on because the day really is a blur!

I just can’t stress how important it was for us to have this day captured like this, and we definitely can’t thank Andrew Yontz enough for capturing it so beautifully and artfully.

I highly recommend checking out his website and other videos and getting in touch if you’re looking for a videographer for your big day!

I want to hear from you! What do you want to see in Wedding Wednesday posts? What can I help with?

Let’s chat – either leave a comment here or on my instagram!

All my love!
